This trip starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda. The 3 days tour takes you to Virunga National Park, the oldest national park in Africa. Formerly called Albert National Park, this is the first park where gorilla tourism was conducted. There are 5 habituated gorilla families in the park and the hiking will be in one of these families. After the trek, you will be returned to Kigali.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Gisenyi
Our guide will pick you up from the airport. Travel to Gisenyi in Rwanda’s western province. Gisenyi is one of the most beautiful touristic towns, located at the shores of the Lake Kivu. Cross the border and spend an overnight at Goma or within the Virunga National Park.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking- Trekking in the forest on the edge of the Virunga mountain chain.
After breakfast, assemble at a visitor centre for a briefing on how to” behave” while in the company of a gorilla group. You will meet your guide here and proceed to the starting point of the trek to our allocated group of gorillas. The length of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are as well as what the weather conditions are.
Meeting these gentle giants Gorillas in their natural habitat is a world unique experience everyone should have the privilege to experience. It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers and gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets as well as sufficient amount of water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. You spend one hour with the gorillas which is a truly amazing experience “before trekking back to the base. Return to Goma or at the lodge within the park.
Day 3: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, cross to Gisenyi in Rwanda. Embark on a return trip to Kigali. Have Lunch Enroute. You will reach Kigali in the afternoon.
